Q: Can anyone come to your church or do you have to be a member?
A: All are welcome. We have many visitors each week.
Q: How should I dress for your church service?
A: Most the men wear a tie & most the women wear a skirt or dress but it's not necessary.
Q: How long is church service?
A: Sacrament Meeting is the main meeting where everyone gathers. It lasts one hour and 10 min. The most important part of this meeting is partaking of the sacrament to renew the covenants we made at baptism. There are also usually 2 or 3 talks and singing.
After that if you would like, there is a Sunday School hour (study of the Scriptures) where adults meet in a class, youth in another and children in another. There is then another hour of Priesthood for the men / Relief Society for the women. Youth & children continue in their classes and activities.
Q: Do Mormons practice polygamy?
A: NO! The practice was abolished in the 1800's. Only 2% of the population practiced polygamy at that time and those who practice it today are not of our faith, although they are often mistakenly called Mormons.
Q: I'm confused about the name of your church.
A: Our real name is "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints". Because we have another testament of Jesus Christ, called "The Book of Mormon", we've been nicknamed Mormon but we don't mind. It's definitely shorter to say.
By the way, we use the word "saint" in the name of our church, as defined in biblical times. The word saint did not mean a perfect person but meant a follower of Jesus. One striving to be like Him.
There are probably better examples than this but here are a couple I thought of:
Psalms 50:5 "Gather my saints...that have made a covenant"...
Ephesians 2:19 "no more strangers...but fellowcitizens with the saints"
Q: What is the Book of Mormon
A: It is a record of the people who lived on this continent in ancient times. It testifies of Christ and is a record of His visits & words to the people. We hold it as one in our hands with the Bible.
